A self-taught gourmet cook since her teens, Lucindy received her Ph.D. from UNC-Greensboro in 19th century British Lit. After retiring from the English Department at North Carolina State University, where she received the Outstanding Teacher Award, she embarked on a new career as chef at the Yancey House Restaurant from its opening in November 2005 until May 2011 when she left her husband and the restaurant and moved to Terrapin Cove on Farmer Lake in West Yanceyville to offer cooking classes, write, and garden.
During her tenure, the Yancey House took first place in the 2011 Best Dish in North Carolina Competition in the Casual Dining category, repeating its first place finish in 2009. At that time, the Yancey House was the first restaurant in any category to twice receive first place honors, while Lucindy was the first female chef to win the competition. More recently (2016) she won the Secret Ingredient Chef Competition at 616 Restaurant.
In addition to cooking classes at her cabin, Chef Lucindy taught monthly classes at a Southern Season in Chapel Hill, NC before it closed and continues to cater small events and host private parties at Terrapin Cove.
What she brings to her cooking classes is a love of teaching and a passion for food. She also offers a relaxed, woodland setting in which to explore one’s own culinary interests. To find a list of cooking classes or sign up for her newsletter, visit terrapincovefarm.com.
